REAL STORIES

"Clearly, Hawaii is being killed ...We're on our knees right now."

Edward Kubo Jr.
US Attorney, State of Hawaii

Age: 15
Gender: female
Location: Oahu

Both my parents were addicts, life all through my childhood was pure hell. I was starving and I smelled horrible because I rarely bathed or changed my clothes.

I didn't get to go to real school until I was 7 years old, when my parents finally enrolled me in a public school. I was far behind all the other kids and was called "dumb" or "stupid". My house was a mess and my parents constantly stayed in their bedroom, shooting up. I saw my mother a few times with different men, I later found out she was selling her body because my Father told her to do so. Both my parents got arrested when I was about 10. I got taken away to live with my new family, they are the best parents and sister I have ever known, I love them so much, but inside me, I know that meth destroyed my chances of ever being with my real family. My real father recently died, and my mother is in some prison somewhere.

I would never do meth because I never want to treat my children the way my parents treated me. Nobody deserves that, and it's a horrible fate that nobody should ever have.
