"Clearly, Hawaii is being killed ...We're on our knees right now."

Edward Kubo Jr.

I started taking meth just last year. A friend told me that it really didn't hurt as much as everyone else said. So I started taking it. The high was incredible, and right then I was addicted. I started asking for more and more, and more was always given to me. One day I woke up on a park bench, not knowing how I got there, and saw that my shirt was stained with blood. I felt a twinge in my face, and touched it gently. There was a gaping hole going through my cheek where I had scratched and picked at my skin. I was horrified, and scared. But the next week I was taking meth again, and not caring what my mom thought or what anyone thought.

I was at a party once, and I was high, which was a usual for me then. I started to feel dizzy, like things around me were fading and changing. I fell to the ground and started convulsing, a throbbing pain in my head that was so powerful I could hardly breathe. I barely heard screams coming from the room, then everything just went black.

I woke up in the hospital and the first thing I saw was my mom crying her eyes out on a chair. I could hear her praying for me. That's when I knew that something had to be done. I went through rehab for a few years, and thank God I didn't relapse. I'm on my way to becoming a better person. When people ask about the huge, deep scar on my cheek, I smile. It has a story. A story that I hope to tell everyone, to let them know that what your friends tell you can be millions of miles away from reality, the real deal.
